VIRGINIA REPUBLICAN CREED

We Believe . . .

That the free enterprise system is the most productive supplier of human needs and economic justice

That all individuals are entitled to equal rights, justice, and opportunities and should assume their responsibilities as citizens in a free society

That fiscal responsibility and budgetary restraints must be exercised at all levels of government

That the Federal Government must preserve individual liberty by observing constitutional limitations

That peace is best preserved through a strong national defense

That faith in God, as recognized by our Founding Fathers, is essential to the moral fibre of the Nation

At the May 21, 2008, GCRC meeting, the membership approved a statement on values that represent the committee's expectations for candidates and officials seeking committee endorsement.  The committee has received accolades from Republicans throughout Virginia and from other states.  The approved document is posted below for public review.

GCRC RESOLUTION #1-2008...
"A RETURN TO CORE CONSERVATIVE VALUES"

Preamble

Our Founders believed in limiting central government as much as they did in the necessity of central government. They believed in core values based on Judeo-Christian-based ethics, such as, the defense of our liberty, our lives, families and property; the pursuit of happiness; the right of law abiding citizens to own and use firearms; the rule and enforcement of law; and the protection of our territory and borders.

Our Founders knew that a national government would have to be constrained by strict limitations and oversight of all elected officials. They believed that a representative form of government would guard our citizens from political excess, greed, abuse of office and dishonorable conduct by elected officials. They knew a national government had to be crafted carefully, prudently and with great trepidation, thus, they employed checks and balances and explicitly defined them in three separate but equal branches of government.

Our Founder’s envisioned a United States of America which would need to be a reflection of the basic morals and mores built upon a faith in God, embodying the personal habits of tolerance, honesty, integrity, humility, responsibility, accountability and compassion.

They knew that the greatest risk to citizens’ freedom, liberty and productiveness would come from elected leaders engorged with power and motivations to satiate their own personal agendas and egos instead of acting on behalf of the citizens who elected them to office.

Whereas

The Greene County Republican Committee (GCRC) believes that many of our national and state-level leaders and some members of the GOP leadership in particular, have abandoned traditional core GOP values to appease voters with entitlements and mandates, which are insidious elements of a liberal socialism.
GCRC believes core conservative values are still intact in Greene County and are the foundations upon which we wish to build our future.
GCRC supports a strong national defense as essential for homeland security and national sovereignty.
GCRC believes balanced budgets are critical to America and Virginia’s financial wellbeing.
GCRC supports the enforcement of the rule of law, individual property rights and a fair legal system as being vital to the sovereignty of America and the Commonwealth.
GCRC believes the second amendment is essential to ensure individual citizens the right to own and use firearms for the protection of self, family and property.
GCRC supports sealing our borders from unauthorized immigration, terrorist intrusion and contraband smuggling.
GCRC believes that Federal and State Constitutions are not subject to interpretation by international law.
GCRC believes that no taxpayer-funded assistance or services should be provided to illegal aliens except for life saving emergencies.
GCRC believes non-core functions of federal government (including pork-barrel spending) should be eliminated; only the enumerated powers and responsibilities explicit in the Constitution require federal spending to operate the core institutions of government.
GCRC believes that only strict constructionist judges should be nominated for all judicial positions.
GCRC supports the need to transfer the political power and money which have accumulated in Washington DC and Richmond, back into local grass roots hands.
GCRC believes public policy making often becomes ego gratification for imposing one’s vision on citizens without their advice or consent, thereby jeopardizing core principles for special interest ideological objectives that are not a proper function of government.
GCRC believes that education K-12 is a parental, local and state responsibility entirely, except for the establishment of recommended knowledge standards nationally.
GCRC believes in a complete revision and simplification of the federal tax code.
GCRC believes we have a great nation. However, we believe the two biggest threats to America are: (1) the absence of a robust, accountable, high-quality educational system and; (2) an enlarged central government which collects and re-distributes our taxes in the form of mandates and entitlements to achieve outcomes engineered and imposed by liberal elites and special interests, who suborn the very precepts given us by our Founders.

Therefore Be It Resolved

GCRC will only support national, state and local candidates for office who adhere consistently to the Virginia Republican Creed of 2007.
GCRC will encourage other GOP committees within and outside the Commonwealth of Virginia to pass supporting resolutions that reflect their own grassroots thinking and concerns by circulating a copy of this resolution to other GOP organizations.
GCRC will not compromise on its core beliefs and principles for the sake of political expediency, or to promote political careerism, or to endorse RINO (Republicans in Name Only) candidates.
GCRC supports the GOP principles embodied in the "1994 Contract with America", these traditional values include: FAITH IN GOD, FAMILY, AND FREEDOM; FISCAL FRUGALITY WITH PUBLIC FUNDS; HONESTY AND HONOR IN PERSONAL AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS; REDUCTION OF THE GOVERNMENT’S SIZE AND TAXES AT ALL LEVELS; THE ELIMINATION OF ALL UNFUNDED MANDATES; AND THE PROTECTION OF THE SECOND AMENDMENT TO GUARANTEE INDIVIDUAL FIREARMS OWNERSHIP FOR FAMILY AND SELF PROTECTION.

God Bless America.
