GREENE COUNTY REPUBLICANS SET MARCH 15 MASS MEETING

OFFICIAL CALL FOR MASS MEETING OF GREENE COUNTY OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY OF VIRGINIA

As Chairman of the Greene County Committee of the Republican Party, and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Gary E. Lowe, Chairman, do hereby issue this call for a Mass Meeting to be held at the American Legion Post 128 , 636 Madison Road, Stanardsville, Virginia or its alternate site, beginning at 7:00 p.m.EDT on March 15, 2010. Registration begins at 6:00 p.m. EDT. In the event of inclement weather, as determined by the Chairman, the meeting will be held on March 22, 2010. The purposes of the Mass Meeting are:

1.      Electing a Chairman and members of the Greene County Republican Committee.

2.      Electing up to 85 Delegates and an equal number of Alternates to the 5th Congressional District Republican Convention, to be held on May 1, 2010 at Hampden-Sydney College  located at  Hampden-Sydney , Virginia or its alternate site, beginning at 11:00 a.m. for the purpose of electing a Fifth District Republican Chairman. Each Unit is entitled to one (1) Delegate Vote per Five Hundred (500) Republican votes for Governor and President at their last election, so that Greene County is entitled to Seventeen (17) Delegate votes.

3.      And for the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the Mass Meeting.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR PARTICIPATION

All legal and qualified voters of Greene County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions or primaries encompassing their respective election districts.

For Mass Meeting registration, all participants shall be required to provide proof of identity, either in the form of a Commonwealth of Virginia Voter Card, or by government or employer-issued photo identification, or by signing an affidavit of identity.  Only those individuals who are registered at the Mass Meetings by 7:00 p.m. EDT time on March 15, 2010, or who are in line for registration by that time, will be entitled to register and participate in the Mass Meetings.  Persons arriving after that time will not be allowed to participate.

PRE-FILING REQUIREMENT FOR CANDIDATES FOR CHAIRMAN

Candidates for election as Chairman of the Greene County Committee at said Mass Meetings shall file a written statement by mail or in person, to Barbara Ballard, First Vice Chairman, 13996 Dyke Rd. Stanardsville, VA 22973. The written statement shall include full name, voting address, telephone number and office sought. The pre-filing must include a statement the individual meets the legal requirements of the position sought and is qualified. If candidate is unopposed, then the candidate shall be declared elected. All written statements must be received by 5:00 p.m., EDT, on March 8, 2010, and postmarks will not govern.

PRE-FILING REQUIREMENT FOR CONVENTION DELEGATE OR ALTERNATE OR MEMBER

            Candidates for election as a Convention Delegate or Alternate or for Member of the Greene County Republican Committee shall pre-file a written statement by mail or in person to Barbara Ballard, First Vice Chairman, 13996 Dyke Rd. Stanardsville, VA 22973. The written statement shall include full name, voting address, telephone number and email address. All written statements must be received by 7:00p.m., EDT, March 15, 2010, and postmarks will not govern. 

PRE-FILING REQUIREMENTS FOR RESOLUTIONS

To be considered at the Mass Meetings, any proposed resolution shall pre-file a written resolution by mail or in person to,  Barbara Ballard, First Vice Chairman, 13996 Dyke Rd., Stanardsville, VA 22973 no later than 5:00 p.m. EDT March 8, 2010.  Resolutions received after that date and time will not be accepted, regardless of postmark.

REGISTRATION FEE

There will be no registration fee to participate in the Mass Meeting but voluntary donations of Ten Dollars $(10) or more, to offset the costs of the Mass Meeting, will be accepted . Individuals elected Delegate or Alternate to 5th District Convention shall provide a mandatory Ten Dollar ($10) registration fee no later than the date of the Mass Meeting.
